WHAT WE BELIEVE
God created the world and human beings in God’s image. God gives God’s own
self to the world in Jesus of Nazareth whose death and resurrection bring us new
life, love and forgiveness. God also gives the Holy Spirit to renew our lives,
to refresh and encourage. We need to open our hearts and our lives and allow
that Spirit to work in us.
The word of God is contained in the Bible. With the help of the Holy Spirit we
can understand what we read here and how we can apply it in our everyday lives.
Our Sunday worship is at the
heart of our church life. We come together to meet with God, to celebrate God’s
goodness and love. We pray for God’s guidance in our lives.
Our main services of worship are at 10.30am and
6.30pm each Sunday. We rarely use a prayer book and services are
simple in style with a minimum of ritual. Holy Communion forms
part of the service on the first Sunday morning, and the third
Sunday evening of each month.
Our services are generally made up of hymns, prayers, readings
from the Bible and a sermon. Members of the congregation help the
minister who leads the worship and certain special services may focus
on a theme, such
as Remembrance, One World Week and Christian Aid
FAMILY WORSHIP
Children and Young People are an integral part of our church
family and worship. They are not just the church of the future -
they are the church of to-day. On Sunday mornings the children and
young people join us for 20 minutes or so and then leave for
their own departments which caters especially for them.
A family service is held on the third Sunday of most months. This
service is also attended by the various uniformed organizations which are affiliated to the church.
BAPTISMS, WEDDINGS AND FUNERALS
Sanderstead United Reformed Church has an open door policy on
baptisms and weddings. No one who comes to us for the Sacrament
of Baptism will ever be turned away.

CHURCH MUSIC
The Church Choir sings in the Sunday morning service and practices on Friday evenings at 8.00pm.
After the morning service we meet for coffee in
the hall.
Local transport to Sunday services can always be
arranged for the elderly or infirm.
Membership
It is part of the United
Reformed Church tradition that church members have a direct and personal
responsibility for the life and policy of their own church. That responsibility
is exercised at our church meeting, which is normally held on the third Sunday of every
month after morning worship. We try not to make any
distinction between those who have become church members and those who have not,
but we do hope that those who are committed to our church will become members.
This is done either by transfer of membership from another church or
denomination or by confession of faith – also known as confirmation.
Presently we have a Church Membership of about 190 with another 100 or
so friends and 260 young people including the uniformed organizations.
Morning congregations average about 100.
