History

Sanderstead United Reformed Church had its beginnings as Sanderstead Congregational Church in October 1931. In February 1932 the present site was acquired and In January 1933 the Church was formally established.   The laying of foundation stones took place in December of that year. whilst the first Sunday service in the new Church was held on 1 July 1934.

The United Reformed Church (URC) was formed in 1972 and today comprises 53,000 members in 1,426 congregations. Its formation brought together English Presbyterians, English, Welsh and Scottish Congregationalists and members of the Churches of Christ. Worldwide, more than 80 million Christians are members of the Reformed family of churches, the largest Protestant tradition. With the formation of the URC the church at  Sanderstead became Sanderstead United Reformed Church in October 1972.
