Outreach

Together with the URC churches at East Croydon, Purley, South Croydon, South Norwood, and with South Croydon United Church (URC/Methodist), we form a group named as the “Croydon Borough Community of United Reformed Churches”.

Sanderstead URC is also part of “Churches Together in Sanderstead”, a group which was established in 1990 and has seen something of a resurgence since Covid with several events being restarted e.g. The Good Friday Walk of witness.  There are 4 churches committed to membership with one more church on the fringe. The member churches seek to work more closely together in worship, in exploration of faith and in outreach to the local community

We are a medium-sized church with a strong community spirit, with many of our church members undertaking voluntary/outreach work locally, e.g. SURC members assist in the life and management of the “Abbeyfield Sanderstead” house.

The church is involved, together with other local churches, with Croydon Nightwatch and during the winter months we help through the “Croydon Churches Floating Shelter” to provide overnight accommodation for up to fourteen men and women who would otherwise have nowhere to sleep

Additionally we retain links through one of our Elders with “Shuktara” an institute located in Calcutta to provide a loving home for children and young people with disabilities who have no family  of their own.
